UPDATE: Edward's Cheap shot on Clinton

Talk about not having any conscious. Edwards takes a cheap shot at clinton:

ohn Edwards was asked in Lakeport about reports that Hillary had teared up.

"I really don't have anything to say about that," he said. "I think what we need in a commander in chief is strength and resolve, and presidential campaigns are a tough business, but being president of the United States is also a very tough business. And the president of the United States is faced with very very difficult challenges every single day, difficult judgements every single day. What I know is that I'm prepared for that, and I'm in this fight for the middle class, foer the future of this country, for the long haul."

The "saying it without saying it" cheap shot. Good job convincing me you're not just another politician Edwards.

Of course Edwards supporters will deny that he was taking a shot at Hillary, or they'll accuse Clinton of faking it for political gain.

But for the candidate who claims to be different and more caring politician Edwards doesn't neglect to take cheap shots at someone to help himself

Ezra Klein just called this a "classless" response by Edwards, noting that he could have easily shown tact and responded like Obama.
Assuming the quote and context is correct, I think it's appalling that Edwards attempted to equate a momentary display of emotion with an absence of strength and resolve. Obama, by contrast, struck the right note: "I didn't see what happened," he said, but added, "I know this process is a grind. So that's not something I care to comment on.

Update [2008-1-7 17:26:12 by world dictator]: Look at Elizabeth Edward's backhanded sympathy: In the end, Elizabeth Edwards did not pass on the political opportunity and added that voters will decide whether or not they want to see watery eyes.

I was not pleased by Edwards' response.  Obama's seems much more appropriate.

What did he say that was factually inaccurate?

What I didn't like was the implication that showing a little emotion on the campaign trail means you lack "strength and resolve."  Just saying, I know I'm not as anti-Hillary as some of my fellow Edwards fans, but I wish he would have said something more along the lines of what Obama said.

When did I call Edwards angry?  Have you forgotten that I am an Edwards supporter?

I frankly appreciate it when any politician shows their human side.  There's a lot at stake here.

Wasn't it just yesterday that.... (2.00 / 0)

Edwards was pissed at Clinton for calling his guest and their pain Talking Points? Talk about a cheap shot. And no sympathy to boot. I would imagine losing a child is probably a million times more traumatic than losing an election. It looks like Clinton can dish it out but, she can't take it.

That saying, I do feel some sympathy for. Her dream is being destroyed and she doesn't know how to stop it and is figuring that she probably can't. I wish her well.

I don't take issue with the substance of what Edwards said--but that hardly means that he should have said it.

Bad move. I appreciate it though, as it allows Obama to make a nice contrast.

"panned outrage of having her feelings hurt"?  Did we watch the same debate?

Any minute now, I am expecting this to be announced as the new Hillary Clinton campaign theme song:

Re: UPDATE: Edward's Cheap shot on Clinton (none / 0)

asshole response by Edwards, although in his defense what could he possibly have said that wouldn't be uncomfortable?
